Why do we tithe? The Bible says, The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23 TLB) Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have. It is also God’s personal invitation to an outpouring of his blessing in your life.

The word "tithe" is derived from the Hebrew word ma’aser and it literally means a tenth. Ten percent of everything belongs to the Lord.

In Malachi 3:10 (NLT), God says this: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

This is the only place in Scripture where God tells us to put him to the test. In other words, he’s saying, “Go ahead. I dare you. See if you can out-give me!”

One way The Journey encourages you to honor God in this area of your life is by committing to tithe over the next 3 months. Not only will you be obeying God, but God will bless you in return.

And we'll help you through this 4-Month Tithe Challenge and encourage you along the way.

Many people at Hope Springs have taken the 3-Month Tithe Challenge and have found this to be one of the most important steps in their spiritual development and have seen God bless them as a result.

Here's what a few had to say:

When you asked us to take the tithing challenge, my first thought was, “Yeah – right!”  I work at a restaurant and just barely make ends meet.  I knew it was the right thing to do though, so I took the challenge.  Soon after, I got the job that I had been pursuing for over six months. - AH

Since I took the tithing challenge a few Sundays ago, I have really stuck with it and God truly has blessed me!  Before, when I would tithe (or try to) I would always skimp short because I was afraid of not having money to make ends meet if I gave up that money.  Since I have been tithing, I have really just put my faith in God and he has completely come through, and then some!  I definitely plan to complete the challenge and to continue tithing even when it’s over.  This has really opened my eyes to just have faith in God to take care of things that I can’t control.  I’m trying to do the same thing in other areas of my life too. – SN
